Day 34 - 9th June 2012

As you can see from the above pictures we spent our day walking along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We have thrown in a chipmunk and a doggy being towed otherwise there is no need to title each photo. We started early to beat the crowds. We drove to the visitor's centre and used the buses that stop at most vantage points. There are about forty stops covered by three bus routes. What we did was hopped-on and walked to the next or the second stop and caught the next bus - they do run every 15 minutes. We calculated that we walked about 10 kilometers today. Now about the Grand Canyon at the south rim - fantastic. It is a site to believe, pictures and to talk about the scenery does not do justice to what you actually see. We are glad we experienced this part of our holiday. For any one who wants to visit the Grand Canyon our suggestion is to hire a car from Las Vegas and stay two nights here utilising one day to soak in the scenery. Our helicoptor ride to the West Rim a few weeks ago was good, but the depth of the canyon is not as deep as the South Rim. The colours that changed during the course of the day is unbelievable. We returned to our motel at 2:30pm for a good rest. Tomorrow we depart for Durango in Colorado passing through Monument Valley in Utah. The famous valley was used in many John Wayne and John Ford westerns. Oh by the way, it is Father's Day here tomorrow - what will Neil expect?? Cheers.
